Catastrophic wildfires

“The biggest problem in the eradication of the beetle is that homes and businesses are close to the infected trees. A controlled burn could be very problematic. The dead trees pose an enormous threat to residents and the public if dead trees fall on roads and power lines or if a wild fire occurs.”

-Jeff Witcosky, entomologist for the U.S. Forest Service in Lakewood, Colorado
