Rock Creek Cattle Co, MT: Fence & Game Barn

Posted: August 10th, 2011

Where: Deer Lodge, MT
What: Five Star Resort Community’s Swimming Pool Fence and Game Barn
Special requirements: Structures that blend with their surroundings and appear they’ve been here 100 years
MTP Appeal: Sturdier, more affordable and reliable than reclaimed wood, just as esthetically pleasing
Products: Full dimension 8×8 posts, 2×12 planks at 18’ lengths on the fence; 1×6 tongue & groove with timbers as large as 10×18 for the cathedral ceiling.

Rock Creek Cattle Company is a working Montana cattle ranch, traversed by streams and framed by mountains.” It offers Western lifestyle lived to its fullest, encompassing 80,000 acres with with diverse homesteads as expansive as 110 acres. The private golf community was featured in the 20 “Best of the Best” premier properties in LINKS and in the Top 15 Modern Courses by Golfweek.

Throughout their structures, including the Rock Creek Cattleman’s Club lodge and real estate offerings from cabins to custom estates, the design is rustic, Montana architecture working with nature. Elegant, sturdy, and designed for survival and sustainability, Rock Creek creates structures that “look like we’ve been here 100 years,” said Isaac Farabaugh, head of construction.

And that’s where Montana Timber Products comes in. For their recent pool area project, RCCC wanted to continue their elegant reclaimed barn wood style when they added a sturdy fence and two-sided game barn.

“It was a no brainer going with Montana Timber Products,” Farabaugh said. “It is durable and very esthetically pleasing. We love the aged look and the circular sawn details.”

Blain Bermingham, our MTP rep for this project pointed out that just like one hundred years ago, MTP offers full-dimension rough lumber. This means that 2x4s are actually a full two inches by four inches, another reason to choose MTP. RCCC could have chosen new textured (nominal size) raw wood, but the reduced modern dimensions would have been a giveaway.

And while reclaimed barn wood is authentic, it is costly in terms of time and money, and there is often a great deal of waste and varied lengths and shapes. MTP provided 18’ lengths for the fence planks, smoothing design and installation. This was just one more aspect of MTP appreciated by Bob Heberly of Dick Anderson Construction, RCCC’s award-winning contractor. “Montana Timber products were easy to work with, durable, and continue the rustic design of Rock Creek perfectly,” he said.

With this project completed, Isaac Farabaugh is looking ahead to future structures to partner with Montana Timber Products. “We just broke ground on a townhouse project. We’ll have MTP siding up as early as October.”

He appreciates the convenience and close comfort of working with Montana Timber Products’ team, with their quality control and extra detailing.  “I knew that whatever happened I’d get the product that I wanted.”

We’ll provide updates on that project and others, so pleased follow our Facebook page to stay tuned.
