This week’s featured project is a beautiful Mountain Rustic Architectural Design home with a focus on structural and decorative Timbers. Structural and decorative rustic Timbers are the pediments and gables of the West. Pediments and gables are typical elements found in classical, neoclassical and baroque architecture. Today, many rustic reclaimed barn wood Mountain Rustic and Mountain Modern Architectural Design homes are incorporating a rustic equivalent to these traditional designs with the use of rustic Timbers. This week we visit a new small chain restaurant named Grassburger, located in Durango, Colorado and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Grassburger was founded on the idea of providing healthy, natural, sustainable food. Our latest project takes us back to an age when building a home was a communal effort and was expected to be your home for life. Harvesting and milling structural timbers and beams required the use of various types of axes. Trees were cut, and with nothing more than brawn and a blade, were hand hewn until square enough to provide structural integrity. Traditional hand hewn beams are a rarity these days; Fortunately, Montana Timber Products’ ranchwood™,  Pioneer series timbers and barn board can provide you the comfort and nostalgia inducing authenticity you desire for your own homestead.

 

The above photo features 2×12 hand hewn and Pioneer, Channel Rustic, horizontal siding, and random width circle sawn, Shiplap, vertical siding. The Shiplap siding, like the timbers, are prefinished with the Montana Timber Products’ Western Exposure color, a part of the ranchwood™ product line.

A close up of the hand hewn and Pioneer siding gives you a better look at its rustic texture and appearance. Channel Rustic siding is a great choice for multiple styles of builds. This project chose to use chinking, but many people opt to leave the “reveal” of the channel. One can always build with channel and add the chinking at a later date for a more traditional look and additional insulation.

This Southwestern Montana home is a classic representative of the emerging Mountain Modern design theme transcending through the Rocky Mountain West.  Mountain Modern design emphasizes attributes of simplicity, clean lines, mono-slope roof pitches, and a mixture of rustic building materials.

This particular residence has a minimalist feel from the front, but then as the home extends rearward it uses the natural landscape and modern architecture to open up with large windows and into a sizable covered deck.  The use of different styles and application of ranchwood™ siding provides texture while maintaining the clean lines of the design.

As seen here, ranchwood™ Eastern exposure Square Edge siding is gapped horizontally. Mixed with vertical ranchwood Tackroom, metal paneling and large windows is a great example of how rustic siding can be integrated into a modern home. ranchwood™ is made to the designer or owner’s specific requirements and therefore is easily utilized and installed into demanding designs such as this Mountain Modern home or other types of architecture may require.

This barn nestled in the heart of the Montana’s Flathead Valley was designed specifically to board multiple horses.  The owner desired a new yet rustic product which was milled in various dimension, textured to raise the wood’s grain and increase the materials aesthetic appearance.

Ranchwood integrated with cementious building material provides a rustic compliment to the exterior design of this home.  Here, 1×8 Shiplap Tackroom is utilized to accent the back and and decking area, 2” trim material is utilized to build out the trellis and window trim area of the exterior.

Another luxury project built with Montana Timber Products…

The Owner, Architect, and Builder for this 2011 new construction project in Saddle Peak Ranch desired a wood siding material which was customizable, durable, and sustainable.  After a few sample design concepts, Montana Timber Products was able to produce the perfect color and profile selections for this home.  Here, a custom lap profile was utilized for the horizontal siding, a channel rustic profile utilized for the gables, and the trim and timbers were prefinished.

The contractor, Teton Heritage Builders, found our Ranchwood product cost effective and the pre-finished product proved easy for the siding contractors to install.  Here, the architect chose to integrate different color selections to offset various portions of the home.  Eastern Exposure, Tackroom, and Western Exposure were all used in different sections to break up the design.

Channel Rustic Siding for Custom Garage Door 

Whether you’re contemplating purchase of a custom made garage door or evaluating using Ranchwood to accent the exterior, Montana Timber Products lap siding integrates well with other aspects of the exterior construction.  As shown here, a Channel Rustic profile emulates a reverse board and batten look and is an easier product to install.  A nice profile for the doors, it weighs less than other options which may be considered.
