Solution: Japanese style charred wood called Shou-Sugi-Ban

Product – Charwood™ – Ebony

The inception of Shou-Sugi-Ban, the centuries old traditional Japanese method of charring wood, was the result of the need for low maintenance, rot, pest, and fire resistant wood siding and fencing. Montana Timber Products’ Charwood™ product line, provides three variations of natural, NO VOC, Shou-Sugi-Ban wood.

Reddish Residence 3 (Web Size) Sohm,

This week’s featured project utilizes Charwood™ Ebony as an interior and exterior solution. Ebony is the “mid-level” burn of the three Charwood™ offerings. It provides similar wood grain striping to that of the Tiger offering, but with a more intense burn to create deeper, richer, coloring.

Reddish Residence 2 (Web Size) Sohm,

Charwood’s incredible ability to resist fire and pests is attested to it’s charring process, which effectively eliminates the majority of its potential energy (combustibility) and it’s vascular tissue. Vascular tissue is the primary food source for boring insects; without it, you minimize the chance of the invasive pests finding their way into your home.

Reddish Residence 1 (Web Size) Sohm,

There are many variations of Charwood™. Many of these variations are harvested overseas and shipped to the United States. All Montana Timber Products natural wood products are sourced and processed in-house here in the United States, minimizing the ecological footprint and maintaining control of sustainable practices.

Reddish Residence 4 (Web Size) Sohm,

Whether you are looking for siding, beams, flooring, or interior accents, Montana Timber Products offers a solution for your rustic needs. All Montana Timber Products’ prefinished wood siding utilizes Seal-Once, a 100% NO VOC waterproofer with a 10 year limited warranty against water ingress.
