THE VISION

The homeowners wanted to create a rustic Craftsman-style home that embraced natural wood materials with a focus on the authentic character of circle-sawn wood.

THE SOLUTION

To capture the essence of the Craftsman style, Western Red Cedar with a circle-sawn texture was used throughout. Horizontal ranchwood™ Tackroom shiplap was combined with vertical AquaFir™ Battleship board and batten, creating the hallmark mix of textures and profiles typical of the Craftsman aesthetic. Circle-sawn cedar was featured in the fascia, trim, and ceilings, maintaining the rustic texture central to the design.

Design Considerations

Craftsman Design Elements: The combination of horizontal and vertical cedar siding, along with exposed cedar trim and fascia, reflected the classic Craftsman emphasis on authentic natural materials.
Western Red Cedar: STK Cedar was chosen for its durability in Iowa’s climate and its ability to complement the rustic, handcrafted design while offering long-lasting performance.
Circle-Sawn Texture: The consistent use of circle-sawn cedar throughout the home emphasized the rustic craftsmanship, enhancing both the home’s warmth and architectural details.
