This is our first design story featuring AquaFir™ in Owyhee. This brown, finished in a smooth texture, proved to be the ideal choice for this project. Its versatility allowed the design team to use the same high-quality Douglas Fir across multiple profiles and applications, from horizontal siding to board and batten, trim, fascia, and even garage door headers. This continuity of material creates a cohesive look, while the semi-transparent finish lets the natural grain and knots of the wood take center stage.

Unlike engineered products that can sometimes feel artificial, AquaFir™ brings an unmistakable authenticity. The prefinished surface not only enhances the wood’s natural character but also provides lasting protection—delivering both beauty and durability in one package. The Solution

AquaFir™ in Hazelnut and Brown was selected for its earthy, organic tones that resonate with the surrounding environment. The finishes bring a sense of warmth and depth, creating a lodge atmosphere that feels both contemporary and timeless.

Design Considerations

Durability and aesthetic harmony were critical. AquaFir’s finishes provide resilience against the elements while offering a luxurious feel. The interplay of Hazelnut and Brown enhances the architecture, grounding the design in its natural surroundings.  All exposed materials including siding, trim, fascia and timbers were expertly milled and prefinished by MTP to the exact specifications required by the project team.
