Product Use:   Horizontal shiplap siding application with wire brush texture lends itself to a modern look.  The contemporary asymmetrical roof line adds variation to the style for the multiplex.  This roof line is also practical for snow run off in the Montana winter.  Choosing to use black trimmed:  windows, lighting fixtures, and roofing accents keep the sleek contemporary style very clean.  The green doors add that pop of color adding to the contemporary architecture.

This close up demonstrates the nice protection shiplap profiling provides.  A tight seal with a natural look.  The ease of installation makes this profile one of the most popular and can be installed vertically or horizontally, shown here.

The fence used the shiplap profile with wire brush texture, like the body of the multiplex.  Using shiplap horizontally instead of a square edge material, kept the contemporary sleek look.  The wood is sealed on all sides with Seal Once product.  Staining and sealing in a controlled environment help to insure the wood is preserved and protected from water.  Sealing after the installation does not allow for the protection of sealing all sides of the boards in a controlled environment.

Product:  Montana Timber Products exterior siding in wire brush texture, AquaFir™ Battleship finish.   Vertical siding is 1×8 shiplap and the horizontal siding is 1×8 square edge lap. The soffit is 1×6 T&G also finished in the Battleship color.

Product Use: Shiplap is used for the vertical siding and the horizontal siding is square edge lap. Two inch fascia and trim are used to accent the architectural details of the home.

This beautiful home uses profiles and varied vertical and horizontal application of the siding to create interest and highlight the windows and general design of the house. Horizontal use of the square edge lap gives the siding depth and body while providing ever changing shadow lines as the sun travels its daily path through the sky.

The Aquafir™ Battleship color works well with the black window trim. This use of a single color for the siding and trim has allowed the owners to create a very uniform look while using profile and orientation to highlight architectural detail.

Product use:  Beautiful Park City Utah home features a mixture of AquaFir™ wood products to compliment the stone and metal used in the design of this modern rustic home.  The AquaFir™ product utilizes a finish that optimizes natural variation and texture of the wood to highlight the modern colors available in this product.  By using two colors with the other natural building materials it gives the home a warm and interesting façade.

 AquaFir™ Circle Sawn Dark Gray ship lap horizontal siding with a AquaFir™ Circle Sawn square edge Bronze Cedar window, door trim and soffits.   Mixing the wood colors allows for a warmer exterior to balance the aesthetics of the design. 

The two story patio brings the eye up to the soffit, AquaFir™ circle sawn T&G Bronze Cedar, beautifully constructed to hold up in the extreme temperatures in the Utah mountains.

The interior of the home displays a Corral Board square edge wall just inside the front doors as a beautiful accent of rustic décor on one side and the modern metal staircase on the other side.  Displaying the boards vertically elongates the ceiling height for a grand look.

The 1800’s gold rush is responsible for laying the foundation to much of the cities, infrastructure, and shipping hubs of the Western United States. Gold prospecting drove Western Expansion and the wealth that it generated trickled down through many aspects of life and supported the creation of many industries. Few people were successful in the hunt for gold, yet many found prosperity in adjacent industries such as forestry to support the booming development. This week’s featured build pays tribute to a part of American history with a unique mining themed resort home in Washington state.

The designers of this project appropriately chose Montana Timber Products as their supplier of rustic wood siding and timbers. This week’s featured project takes us to Park City, Utah and displays a unique combination of rustic and traditional building materials, including Montana Timber Products’ ranchwood™, Charwood™, and traditional reclaimed barn wood.

The photo below gives a great snapshot of the various materials used for this build. The off-gray vertical Shiplap in the top left portion of the photo is part of the AquaFir™ product line. When compared to the brown 2″ ranchwood™ trim below the copper gutter and the ranchwood™ vertical Shiplap (bottom right), you can see that the ranchwood™ has greater color variation between the soft and hard grain of the wood, giving it a slightly more rustic look compared to the AquaFir™. The lower left hand portion of the photo is the Charwood™ Tiger, horizontal Shiplap siding, easily distinguishable by the tiger striped wood grain created by the Shou-sugi-ban burning process.

The inception of Shou-Sugi-Ban, the centuries old traditional Japanese method of charring wood, was the result of the need for low maintenance, rot, pest, and fire resistant wood siding and fencing.
