This week’s featured build displays many creative and unique interior uses of Charwood™ Ebony throughout the entire home. This method of burning, scorching, or charring the surface of wood building materials dates back hundreds of years. The homeowners and designers created a very welcoming entryway by utilizing Charwood™ ceiling paneling as well as a traditional sliding door. The ceiling paneling features a Tongue and Groove profile allowing the fasteners to be concealed for a clean finish. The white walls, a theme throughout most of the home, creates a strong contrast with the Charwood™, resulting in a beautiful clash between modern and traditional design.

The mixed dimension, mixed Circle Sawn and Wire Brushed texture, Charwood™ Ebony backdrop (above) creates an absolute depth not commonly seen. To compliment it, the same material was used for the cabinetry and trim throughout the bathroom.

The photo below gives a great snapshot of the various materials used for this build. The off-gray vertical Shiplap in the top left portion of the photo is part of the AquaFir™ product line. When compared to the brown 2″ ranchwood™ trim below the copper gutter and the ranchwood™ vertical Shiplap (bottom right), you can see that the ranchwood™ has greater color variation between the soft and hard grain of the wood, giving it a slightly more rustic look compared to the AquaFir™. The lower left hand portion of the photo is the Charwood™ Tiger, horizontal Shiplap siding, easily distinguishable by the tiger striped wood grain created by the Shou-sugi-ban burning process.

As a continuation of last week’s featured Charwood™ interior project in Eagle, Idaho, we take a look at the ranchwood™ reclaimed barn wood alternative siding, beams, and soffit exterior of the same home. Similar to the interior, the home owners and designers created a stunning contrast by utilizing the combination of stone, stucco, and natural wood siding.

The material choice of stone, stucco, and ranchwood™ siding shows that the home owners wanted a unique, attractive, low maintenance home. Montana Timber Products’ three reclaimed barn wood alternative product lines (ranchwood™, AquaFir™, and Charwood™) offer just that- low maintenance.
